Twitter Spam: A Troubling Trend

Here at Rockfish we jump at the chance to integrate social media into as many projects as possible. However, the explosive growth of Twitter has created a growing problem: Twitter spam. Much like email spam, these messages latch onto popular topics and gain traction quickly. We encountered the issue within one of our own projects, when a trending hashtag became a target for spam. One of our team members envisioned a solution and we created our newest product, called TidyTweet.

TidyTweet allows users to pull syndicated Twitter feeds into their personal or corporate sites, while filtering out spam and inappropriate comments in real-time. The service includes features like automatic or manual approval of tweets, custom word filtering, and auto-rejection of newly created accounts or tweets with multiple trending topics appended.

We recently launched TidyTweet in beta testing and are currently accepting a limited number of users to help us finalize it. TidyTweet is already a success, with over 300 beta users and a feature in Mashable’s “Spark of Genius” series.
