Justin Hill
Senior Developer, Team Leader
- The most interesting project I’ve worked on while at Rockfish was: mywalmart.com… a facebook style site
where Walmart associates come to connect with each other and learn about what is going on in their company. Associates
like it because it’s a safe haven where they can have an honest conversation about the company in an environment free from
the overly negative backlash they might receive from special interests groups on the public internet. The company likes it
because they have a direct line to the pulse of its workforce. They get to find out what’s important to their associates
and it gives them an outlet to foster company culture and share company initiatives.
- My favorite thing about Rockfish is: When I tell people where I work, I don’t have to go into a long explanation
about what we do because the quality of our work speaks for itself and people have noticed who we are. I get a bit of an ego
boost knowing that I’m working with the most talented people in the industry. It keeps me from getting lax and makes me want
to always deliver my best.
- What I like best about our new location: Our A/V gear. How else could we have piped Michael Jackson videos
throughout the office? It wouldn’t have been a proper tribute with a lesser A/V system.
- A trend in our industry that I find interesting is: I’m constantly surprised at the wide range of companies that
want to get into the social media space in any way they can. We’ve done some really interesting projects that were seen by
lots of people. There have also been a couple others that made me scratch my head and really wonder how big the target audience could be.
- My favorite website (and why): digg.com… I find myself visiting this site on my phone a few times a day. What
keeps me coming back? I guess it’s the commenting system. There’s rarely a need to click through to the actual news article
because there is usually a pretty good discussion going on about it. Diggers are quick to point out any bias or flat out
falsehoods in the article. Posts that aren’t helpful to the conversation are hidden, and there are usually at least one or
two witty remarks to keep things interesting.
